Kōwhai on an esoteric level is ‘breaking bonds with the past to go forth with a sense of adventure’.

Native Plant Medicine Crafted with Love and Purpose

I’m Amanda and I have drafted a book, “I Am My Own Beacon”.  “Will it get published?” is yet to be answered. Skylar.NZ is the beginning of a potential legacy for my family.

I Am My Own Beacon’ describes how I go about life. When I want to know why, what, when or how, then I shine a light in that area. Born on the cusp of Libra and Scorpio (astrology is another passion), a trait of Scorpio is diving deep in looking at the ‘why’.

I was 5 years old when my sister was born, I felt like the luckiest person alive. I spent as much time as I could with her, racing home after school to take her for walks and had many play times. My love for babies came from the time I had with her and why I became a Midwife.

Sadly she passed away when I was nearly 10. This was devastating and compounded by not being able to be with her or go to her funeral. If I spoke her name I was told off.

So, it became a quest to find out what happened and why; which has led me to a rich nursing and midwifery career.

Now, my true passion lies in the birth process; empowering and supporting women in their journeys.

I obtained a Degree in Nursing and a Masters in Midwifery and what I have witnessed throughout my career in medicine, is that we are highly complex beings that do well when we are supported by many different modalities.

Preventative health is the goal.

As I have got older, I have slowly moved further and further away from the hospital as preventative health is the goal for everyone.

Alongside all of my studies, I have explored a number of modalities that include Healing touch, Esoteric healing, homeopathy, Midwifery acupuncture, Rekei, and Arvigo therapy including Abdominal massage and plant medicine.

It was through the combination of abdominal massage and plant medicine that I started to make a massage cream for women. These courses were in Belize in the Rain Forest where the Mayans explain everything was available in a 10km radius. Being based in New Zealand, I started harvesting Kōwhai, Kawakawa and the like.

NZ First Light describes kōwhai as ‘breaking bonds with the past and going forward with a sense of adventure

This resonated for me after working with women over the past 25 years. It is the key to being your own person, living how you want versus old ways. I have been making the Aurora Cream for the past 7 years and it always has kowhai as does most of my products.

Castor oil (rich in ricinoleic acid) is another key ingredient in my products. The Mayans use castor oil packs that are super messy to use, so I have integrated castor oil into the cream so you can reap the benefits without the mess.

The process of the creams

Being post-menopausal and not having periods it is useful to follow a cycle, so the moon cycle made the most sense to me to follow, especially with my keen interest in astrology. I make the creams over a moon cycle, the new moon and the eclipse seasons so they can take 2-4 weeks to complete.

A new blend inspired by my beautiful Grandson, so have added Aloe Vera butter for the skin/chamomile and lavender oil for these upset tummies

The brew is Kōwhai oil, there’s also castor oil, coconut oil, beeswax, hemp oil, shea butter, kawa kawa and rosemary all having unique healing properties.

I always have these oils and plants soaking in crystals these crystals are different with the different moon cycles.

Clients have reported the cream great for stretch marks, haemorrhoids, eczema, gardening hands and scratches and scars. I use it as a massage cream and baby massage is good for blemishes on your face.

Excellent for sunburn and healing burns, athlete’s foot, grazes (literally a great first aid cream)

One mum reported for her 8-year-old after 4 years of different creams her skin was better the next day.

Colleague has been using on her dogs ear that has been treated with antibiotics was better after 12 hours and now uses a blend I have made more specifically for dogs, and her vet reports ‘best fur ever’.

I’ve used the all purpose cream Amanda makes now for the past 5 years. To us it is the miracle cream that we literally use for everything – rashes, cuts, dry skin, night cream for our face, burns. It has multiple healing properties and we call it our magic cream! Amanda puts so much energy into this cream and each batch is just beautiful brewed with love, care, compassion and magic.

The moment that you feel and smell the moisturizer in your skin you get instantly teleported to another realm. It feels good, it makes you feel radiant and loved. Totally recommend this product to a full sensorial experience.
